Heliot Ramos, Giants Will Snap Historic MLB Opening Day Lineup Streak That Dates Back to Barry Bonds
Heliot Ramos will provide some stability at left field for the San Francisco Giants to begin the 2026 season.
Ramos will start in left field during the Giants' Opening Day clash with the New York Yankees on Wednesday, becoming the first San Francisco left fielder to start in consecutive season-openers since Barry Bonds in 2006-07 (via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area).
The Giants used 19 different left fielders on Opening Day in each of the previous 19 seasons.

Ramos, who earned an All-Star nod in 2024, previously discussed receiving his second consecutive Opening Day start.
"There's ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I feel like I worked for it," Ramos said, per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. "It's something I've earned just because of how hard I work and how mentally focused and prepared I am. … I know my bat is going to be there. It's locked in for any situation. Right now, I feel like I have no holes in my game. I'm comfortable with it, and I'll have my teammates' back."
The 26-year-old appeared in 157 games with the Giants last season, hitting .256 with 21 home runs, 24 doubles and 69 RBI. Ramos also posted a .728 OPS.
He'll now look to finally find success against Yankees Opening Day starter Max Fried, as he's hitless in nine career plate appearances when facing Fried (via Baseball Reference).
Wednesday's game between San Francisco and New York will begin at 8:05 p.m. ET.
