Tush Push Ban Won't Be Discussed at NFL Owners Meeting Amid Other Rule Change Proposals

Doric SamMar 25, 2026

The Tush Push is here to stay for the 2026 season.

While a set of rule change proposals will be discussed at the annual league meeting next week in Phoenix, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that there won't be any discussions about banning the infamous short-yardage play.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that the percentages of use and success of the Tush Push are down overall.

"There is less talk about it in the football community," Competition Committee chair Rich McKay said during a conference call on Wednesday.

Last year, the proposal to ban the Tush Push fell short of the 24 votes necessary for it to go into effect by just two votes.

Instead, the league will vote on rule change proposals that include changes to onside kicks and contingencies for referee work stoppages.

Without a proposal to ban the Tush Push, the play will continue to be utilized by teams like the Philadelphia Eagles to dominate short-yardage situations.
