Watch Royals' Salvador Perez Get Massive Tattoo to Celebrate Venezuela's World Baseball Classic Win
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez got a huge tattoo on his left thigh to commemorate Venezuela's World Baseball Classic victory, the first in the country's history.
Venezuelan tattoo artist Luis Gil did the artwork on Perez, a nine-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glove winner, five-time Silver Slugger and 2015 World Series champion.
Perez spoke about the tattoo on Tuesday, per Drew Davison of MLB.com.
"It's going to be with me the rest of my life," Perez said.
"It means a lot, especially playing for my country Venezuela."
He wanted to get the tattoo the day after the championship but ultimately waited until last Sunday. The session lasted about four hours, per Perez.
Venezuela went 3-1 in pool play to advance to the knockout round. Once there, Venezuela rolled off victories against defending champion Japan, previously undefeated Italy and the United States, the pre-tournament favorite.
Perez was Venezuela's starting catcher. He scored the first run in the championship, a 3-2 victory over Team USA.
Perez now turns his attention to the MLB regular season, which begins for the Royals on Friday at the Atlanta Braves, a team led by superstar outfielder and Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr.
