Mel Kiper Jr. Explains Dolphins Picking Jordyn Tyson in 2026 NFL Mock Draft After Waddle Trade

Joseph ZuckerMar 19, 2026

Mel Kiper Jr. believes Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson is the right candidate to lead the Miami Dolphins receiving corps into a new era.

On First Draft, the ESPN expert broke down picks No. 11-32 in his newest mock, which had Tyson landing with the Dolphins. Beginning at the 4:40 mark of the episode, Kiper explains the choice and calls the Sun Devils star a "great starting point" and a "go-to option" for the Malik Willis-led passing attack.

Miami's decision to release Tyreek Hill wasn't a surprise. The eight-time Pro Bowler turned 32 this month, and he's coming off a serious knee injury. It was time to move on.

Jaylen Waddle's trade to the Denver Broncos was much more of a stunner, and his departure leaves the Dolphins' wideout options sorely lacking. Their No. 1 receiver right now is Tutu Atwell or Jalen Tolbet.

Miami absolutely has to address the position in the draft, and Tyson might be the best available when the team is on the clock on Day 1.

The 6'2" pass-catcher had 136 receptions for 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns over the past two seasons at ASU. He's the top-ranked player at his position and eighth overall in Bleacher Report's big board.

B/R scout Dame Parson compared Tyson to five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper.

"Good route-running ability," Parson wrote. "Tyson thrives at attacking angles and leverage. His routes are run with the intent to step on the defensive back's toes quickly. ... Possesses top-end speed and acceleration to be a vertical/deep weapon in the passing offense."

Ohio State's Carnell Tate was off the board in Kiper's mock by the time it was the Dolphins' turn at No. 11. Should both be available, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan may have a dilemma.

If Tate is gone and Tyson's sitting there, the choice could be relatively straightforward.
