Rams Exec Rips Seahawks' Controversial 2-Point Conversion After LA Withdrew Rule-Change Proposal
Los Angeles Rams team president Kevin Demoff spoke out Thursday about the controversial two-point conversion that helped the Seattle Seahawks beat the Rams in a pivotal Week 16 game.
Demoff replied to a post on X by Mark Maske of the Washington Post regarding the Rams withdrawing a rule-change proposal that would have focused on a team's ability to advance a backward pass and the amount of time that can go by before a replay review is enacted:

In his post, Demoff included video of the play, which saw a pass by Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold get deflected. It was initially thought to be an incomplete pass, but running back Zach Charbonnet picked up the ball in the end zone, and an eventual reply review determined that it was a fumble recovered by the offense for a successful two-point conversion:
Demoff made his feeling about the call clear, writing, "Withdrawn but not forgotten in today's NFL you can pick up a ball after a play is whistled incomplete, turn around with it and walk back towards midfield and four minutes later have it count for two points."
The play in question tied the game at 30-30 with 6:23 left in the fourth quarter, as Seattle overcame a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force OT.
L.A. took a seven-point lead in overtime on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Puka Nacua, but the Seahawks answered with a touchdown from Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba before executing another successful two-point conversion to win a 38-37 thriller.
With that win, the Seahawks improved to 12-3 and the Rams fell to 11-4, giving Seattle firm control of the NFC West.
A Rams win would have given them a one-game lead over Seattle in the division, along with the tiebreaker since they beat the Seahawks in their first meeting.
Seattle went on to win the NFC West and secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC. As a result, the Seahawks hosted the Rams in the NFC Championship Game and beat them 31-27 to reach the Super Bowl.
The Seahawks then beat the New England Patriots to secure the second Super Bowl triumph in franchise history.
Had the Rams beaten the Seahawks in Week 16, won the division and earned the No. 1 seed, it is fair to wonder if they might have gone the distance.
The wild two-point conversion played a big role in Seattle's Week 16 win, but unless the competition committee proposes a rule change, a similar situation could potentially arise during the 2026 season.
Rule changes will be voted on later this month at the league meeting in Phoenix, however, there are currently no on-field proposals set to go up for vote.
