Fantasy Baseball 2026 Rankings and Highlighting Top Prospects to Target

Zach BuckleyMar 19, 2026

When it comes to excitement, no one generates more in the MLB world—the real thing and the fantasy version—than prospects.

They are, by definition, walking mystery boxes with the widest range of possible outcomes ahead of them. If everything breaks absolutely right, they can be fantasy league-winners.

Of course, things rarely go absolutely right, and they sometimes go disastrously. And if a fantasy manager pays a premium for a prospect who doesn't pan out, that could be the kind of thing that derails a fantasy campaign before it ever gets going.

That doesn't mean prospects must be avoided. It just means you have to be careful in targeting the right ones and responsible with your level of investment in them. After providing our top 30 overall fantasy rankings, we'll highlight two prospects we feel are deserving of your draft trust.

Generational prospects don't always become generational greats, but the blueprint for baseball superstardom is all in place for Konnor Griffin. To say that about anyone is obviously lofty praise, but it's potentially transcendent stuff when considering we're talking about a 19-year-old.

Again, that doesn't mean he'll put it all together this season, but whenever the puzzle pieces align, baseball will have its next fantasy juggernaut.

The Pirates haven't locked him into their Opening Day lineup yet, but he already seems too good for the minors. Last season, which he split across three different levels, he posted a pristine .333/.415/.527 slash line while totaling 21 homers and 65 steals in his 122 games.

His speed and power both look like elite tools, and his contact skills are steadily improving. If he hits the ground running, he could be a no-brainer first-round pick during next year's draft season.

JJ Wetherholt, 2B/SS/3B, St. Louis Cardinals

    3 of 3
Baltimore Orioles v St. Louis Cardinals

While elite prospects are often worth stashing in all but the shallowest fantasy leagues, you'd still prefer having players who can contribute right away. With Wetherholt, you may not need to decide—he might be the best prospect not named Konnor Griffin, and he seems like a lock to be a part of St. Louis' opening day lineup (quite possibly in the leadoff role).

Wetherholt's physical tools aren't as loud as Griffin's, but his fantasy outlook is equally inviting.

He makes good contact and great decisions at the plate. His bat has pop, and his legs have burst. Last season, which he split between AA and AAA, he had 17 home runs, 23 steals and a sizzling .306/.421/.510 slash line over 109 contests.

His future looks incredibly bright, and that future sure seems like it's starting now.
