A'ja Wilson Rumors on Historic New Aces Supermax Contract After WNBA, WNBPA Agree to CBA

Paul KasabianMar 18, 2026

Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson, the WNBA's only four-time MVP, is expected to re-sign with the team on a supermax deal containing a starting salary of $1.4 million after the league and Women's National Basketball Players Association verbally agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement on Wednesday.

Callie Fin of the Las Vegas Review-Journal broke the news on Wednesday and said the new deal is expected to happen "as soon as possible."

ESPN's Shams Charania provided more details on the new CBA.

As Fin noted, Wilson was a free agent this offseason, and the same went for about 80 percent of the WNBA as the players' association fought for better pay.

Per ESPN's Alexa Philippou, "dates that had been provided to teams in late February, according to a source, set the expansion draft for April 6 and free agency for April 7-18."

Wilson's reported return to Las Vegas is a huge win for the Aces considering that she's arguably the sport's GOAT.

She has a long list of accolades, including seven All-Star Game appearances (the lone exception is 2020, when there was no All-Star Game), three WNBA championships, two Olympic gold medals and two World Championship gold medals.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is also a four-time blocks champion and five-time All-Defensive Team member.

Wilson averaged 23.4 points on 50.5 percent shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.6 steals in 40 starts for the Aces last season. She guided the Aces past a rocky 14-14 start and led them to a 16-game win streak to end the season.

Las Vegas finished second and withstood a pair of tough challenges in the first two rounds against the Seattle Storm and Indiana Fever before Wilson led the Aces to a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Mercury in the finals.

Wilson has helped the Aces tremendously by taking team-friendly deals along the way to help the franchise. Fin provided more details.

"During that span, the 29-year-old has taken team-friendly deals to aid the Aces in constructing winning teams. That process was difficult under the salary cap set by the previous CBA, which will increase from $1.4 million to starting at $7 million under the new deal.

"Wilson, who signed a two-year extension in 2023 worth $200,000 per year, was not even in the top 25 highest-paid players last season. That list included her teammate Jewell Loyd, who made the 2025 supermax of $249,000."

Now Wilson will be getting a well-deserved supermax deal as maximum salaries increase and the salary cap does as well, signaling a new and wholly positive era for WNBA players.
