Biggest Questions Surrounding 2026 NFL Season After the Draft 🤔
His days in Charlotte were numbered once the Panthers added Kenny Pickett to their quarterback room.
Even though the team is getting a meager return, trading Dalton instead of releasing him means getting back all $4 million he's due for 2026. Cutting him would've triggered a $2 million dead money hit.
Just as Pickett's arrival heralded Dalton's exit, his move to Philly could mean Tanner McKee is on the way out.
A sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, McKee has started twice in place of Jalen Hurts for the final week of the regular season. He went 48-of-81 for 510 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
NJ.com's Cayden Steele reported on March 4 that McKee was drawing outside trade interest, but the Eagles were content to keep him on the roster.
"Entering the final year of his rookie deal, McKee is viewed as one of the league's top backup quarterbacks by the Eagles, and any trade compensation would likely have to start with a Day-2 pick," Steele wrote.
The Athletic's Brooks Kubena reported the situation isn't a foregone conclusion now:
A team carrying three quarterbacks on its game-day roster isn't unprecedented, but the odds of a McKee trade have seemingly increased.
