New De'Von Achane Trade Rumors on Dolphins RB's Future After Jaylen Waddle Dealt to Broncos

Adam WellsMar 18, 2026

Even though first-year general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley have torn down the Miami Dolphins roster as they look to get a fresh start, one player they don't appear interested in moving is De'Von Achane.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, teams that have called the Dolphins to inquire about Achane have been told he is not available.

There was immediate speculation about Achane's future on Tuesday after the Dolphins agreed to trade Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos for a package that included the No. 30 pick in the 2026 NFL draft going back to Miami.

Other offseason moves by the Dolphins included releasing Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb. They also traded Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets.

There are a total of 16 players no longer on Miami's roster who will account for at least $175 million in dead cap money in 2026.

The Dolphins have been able to make some additions in free agency to offset the talent losses. They brought in Malik Willis, Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert and Josh Uche, but no one currently on the roster has a base salary higher than $7.8 million.

Achane is in an interesting spot with the Dolphins right now. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will earn $5.8 million in 2026, but he's not necessarily being put in a position to succeed as he pursues a long-term contract since the team is in reset mode right now.

There's a strong argument that Achane would have more value to a team with strong playoff aspirations and a need at running back. Another complicating factor, though, is how much would another team offer Miami if he were to be made available.

One example is Breece Hall when he was on the trade block during the 2025 season. He wound up not being moved because the New York Jets were reportedly seeking a second-round draft pick in a deal.

The Dolphins also have to play the 2026 season and might want one or two good playmakers to help out Willis in his first year as a full-time starting quarterback in the NFL.

Achane has steadily grown into one of the best all-around running backs in the NFL. He set career-highs in rushing yards (1,350), yards from scrimmage (1,838) and tied his career-high with 12 total touchdowns last season.

The 24-year-old has 145 receptions over the past two years, five more than any other running back during that span.
