Players Championship Leaderboard 2026 Review of Top Day 2 Scorecards, Player Stats

Joe TanseyMar 13, 2026

Ludvig Aberg produced the best round of The Players Championship to open up a two-shot lead at TPC Sawgrass.

Aberg shot a nine-under 63 to shoot past Xander Schauffele and a few other big names on the leaderboard.

Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick are among the notable golfers inside the top 20.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are notably missing from the first few pages of the leaderboard.

McIlroy and Scheffler will begin the weekend at one-over. They are the last two winners of The Players.

Ludvig Aberg Breaks Away From Pack With 63

Ludvig Aberg stormed to the front of the leaderboard with his second-round 63.

Aberg tied the front-nine course record at TPC Sawgrass and was one shot off the 18-hole course record.

Aberg's acceleration up the leaderboard began almost instantly, as he rolled in three birdies and an eagle in his first four holes.

The Swede finished off his front nine with an eagle on the par-five ninth.

He cooled off a bit on the back nine, but he still had three birdies to extend his advantage by two shots over Schauffele.

The round was Aberg's best at TPC Sawgrass in his three Players Championship appearances.

There's still plenty of golf to be played, but if Aberg plays on the weekend like he did on Friday, he'll be difficult to catch.

Xander Schauffele's 65 Puts Him in Great Shape

THE PLAYERS Championship 2026 - Round Two

Prior to Aberg's red-hot round, Xander Schauffele had the best round on course.

Schauffele rolled in eight birdies during his seven-under 65 to put him at 10-under for the tournament.

Schauffele started to catch fire in the middle of the back nine. He rolled in three straight birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 16.

The two-time major champion then produced four birdies on the front nine to finish off his round.

Schauffele carded just one bogey early in his round on the 13th hole. He had nine pars to go along with his eight birdies.

The second-round 65 placed Schauffele one shot behind Aberg and into Saturday's final group.

It'll be the third time in his career in which Schauffele will be in contention for The Players Championship. He finished in a tie for second in 2018 and 2024.

Rory McIlroy's Title Defense In Peril

THE PLAYERS Championship 2026 - Round Two

Rory McIlroy is 12 shots off the lead going into the weekend.

The reigning champion at TPC Sawgrass barely made the cut thanks to his second-round 71.

McIlroy's birdie on the ninth hole moved him back to one-over. That turned out to be a meaningful putt because the cut line settled at two-over.

McIlroy's 71 was three strokes better than his Thursday round, but it still wasn't anywhere good enough to contend for his third Players title.

A weekend surge up the leaderboard is still possible for McIlroy to gain a top-20, or even a top-10, finish, but a second victory in a row seems very unlikely given how well the leaders have played through 36 holes.
