L'Jarius Sneed Reportedly Released by Titans, Updated NFL Salary Cap, Top Landing Spots
The Tennessee Titans reportedly parted ways with cornerback L'Jarius Sneed on Friday, just two years after acquiring him in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Titans saved $11.4 million against the salary cap in 2026 by releasing Sneed.
OverTheCap.com listed the Titans as having an NFL-high $70.2 million in cap space before the move, meaning they now have an estimated $81.6 million in space.
ESPN's Benjamin Solak noted that Sneed's former team, the Chiefs, "unironically" make a lot of sense as Sneed's next destination after departing Tennessee.
Prior to the 2024 season, the Titans acquired Sneed and a seventh-round draft pick from the Chiefs in exchange for a third-round pick and a seventh-round pick.
Tennessee proceeded to sign Sneed to a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension, installing him as the team's top corner.
Injuries plagued Sneed during his time with the Titans, though, as he was limited to five games in 2024 due to a quad injury and seven games last season because of another quad ailment.
All told, the 29-year-old veteran appeared in 12 games for the Titans over two seasons, recording 49 tackles, three passes defended and no interceptions.
Originally a fourth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech in 2020, Sneed was far more effective during his four-year stint in Kansas City.
Sneed started 54 of the 57 games he appeared in from 2020 to 2023, registering 303 tackles, 40 passes defended, 10 interceptions and 6.5 sacks.
He also started 13 playoff games, intercepting one pass and winning a pair of Super Bowls.
While Sneed figures to garner interest from multiple teams, there is little doubt that Kansas City is the best fit.
He is already well-versed in the Chiefs' defensive scheme since Steve Spagnuolo has been KC's defensive coordinator since 2019.
On top of that, Kansas City has lost significant talent at cornerback this offseason, as it traded Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, Jaylen Watson signed with the Rams and Joshua Williams signed with the Titans in free agency.
The Chiefs added cornerback Kader Kohou from the Miami Dolphins, but they still have a major need at corner with Kristian Fulton and 2025 third-round pick Nohl Williams as the projected outside starters currently.
If Sneed does not go back to Kansas City, other cornerback-needy teams that could potentially sign him include the Washington Commanders, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.
