Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Murray's contract is for one year.
Fans applauded the move as Murray looks to revamp his career following his struggles in Minnesota.
The natural next step after celebrating the Murray signing was for fans to question the future of J.J. McCarthy.
Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick in 2019, has struggled in recent years. Last year, he played just five games, posting 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. That makes it easy to forget that he's a two-time Pro Bowler who once led the Cardinals to the playoffs, and the Vikings hope to get that version of him this year.
While Murray is the veteran, more proven option, there will likely still be a quarterback competition between him and McCarthy this offseason. McCarthy, the 10th overall pick in 2024, missed all of his rookie season and struggled last year with 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Vikings likely still have some hope left for McCarthy, but bringing in Murray indicates that they don't trust him to take over under center just yet.
Minnesota found success two years ago when it brought in Sam Darnold, a former first-rounder who had struggled to find his place in the league. Now, the Vikings will look to get that same result from Murray after his time with the Cardinals.
