Bryce Huff Announces NFL Retirement at Age 27 in Video, Won Super Bowl 59 With Eagles
27-year-old defensive end Bryce Huff announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday.
"I'm retiring from football," Huff said in a video posted on Instagram. "I started playing football when I was four years old. Growing up I wasn't the biggest or the strongest and I didn't really have many friends. All I really had was the game. Football kept me grounded, it gave me something to hold on to."

Huff spent six seasons in the NFL from 2020-25, playing for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. He won Super Bowl LIX with the Eagles during his 2024 campaign.
He missed five games during his lone year in Philadelphia due to left wrist surgery, revealing that the injury factored into his decision to retire.
"I spent a year in Philadelphia where we won a Super Bowl," Huff said (1:51 mark). "It wasn't the smoothest season for me personally, and I've always been honest about that. Early on, I let things affect how I approached my work and by the time I got my mind right, I had torn a ligament in my wrist. That injury forced me to step back and really evaluate what mattered in my life."
After playing at Memphis for four years in college, Huff signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
He operated in a rotational role with New York, amassing 7.5 sacks across his first three seasons combined before racking up a career-high 10 sacks in 2023.
Huff eventually signed a three-year contract worth $51.1 million with the Eagles during the 2024 offseason before he was traded to San Francisco in May 2025.
During his final NFL season with the 49ers, he recorded 15 quarterback hits and four sacks in 15 appearances. He also tallied 45 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.
Huff will finish his career with 108 tackles, 62 quarterback hits, 26 tackles for loss, 24 sacks and four forced fumbles.
