Mike Evans Hypes 49ers' Super Bowl Chances, Talks George Kittle's Recruitment After NFL FA Contract
Mike Evans already won one Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he believes he is in position to do so again with the San Francisco 49ers.
The wide receiver told reporters Thursday he believes the 49ers were one piece away from winning it all last season and that he can be that piece.
Evans also said San Francisco tight end George Kittle recruited him and is a major reason he chose the NFC West team while also pointing out the chance to play for head coach Kyle Shanahan played a significant role as well:
The veteran also took to social media to express his excitement for joining the team:
It may take some time to get used to Evans playing for the 49ers or any team outside of Tampa Bay considering he spent the first 12 years of his career for the franchise that selected him with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft.
He became a Buccaneers institution as a six-time Pro Bowler who surpassed 1,000 yards in each of his first 11 seasons. He also remains the franchise's all-time leader in receptions (866), receiving yards (13,052) and receiving touchdowns (108).
However, injuries limited Evans to eight games last season. He will also be 33 years old during the 2026 campaign, which means there are some fair questions about him for perhaps the first time in his career.
Yet playing in the same offense as Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey should help him put up impressive numbers.
Opposing defenses won't be able to afford to send double teams his way throughout games, which will lead to plenty of single-coverage situations. Throw in an offensive-minded coach like Shanahan designing routes for the Texas A&M product, and another 1,000-yard season would be anything but a surprise.
And that could put Evans and the 49ers in position to deliver on those Super Bowl expectations.
