Eagles Super Bowl Odds Hinge on Jalen Carter Contract Extension Amid NFL Rumors
The Philadelphia Eagles will look to rebound in 2026 from an improbable Wild Card round playoff loss to the depleted San Francisco 49ers. A key cog in the machine is defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who has one year left on his contract entering the upcoming campaign.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that the team has received calls about Carter's availability. Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94WIP reported that the Eagles want to re-sign Carter, and it is a matter of "when, not if."
Shorr-Parks' report has to be encouraging to fans because it is nearly impossible to imagine the team making a deep postseason run and getting back to the Super Bowl without Carter.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The former Georgia Bulldog was a wrecking ball in the middle of the defensive line. He tied his rookie total for tackles with 33, knocked down a career-high seven passes, tallied 12 quarterback hits, and accumulated five tackles for losses.
He capped off his season with a Pro Bowl nod.
At just 24 years old, and two seasons removed from All-Pro honors and Defensive Player of the Year consideration, he is still a major impact player for what the 2024 champs want to do defensively.
With the losses of Jaelan Phillips (Carolina Panthers), Nakobe Dean (Las Vegas Raiders), and Reed Blankenship (Houston Texans) in free agency, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will need his anchor pieces to help fuel a defensive unit that was the catalyst for their Super Bowl victory two years ago.
Carter is one such player. His ability to create pressure up the middle opens up the Eagles' pass rush to do its thing, disrupt the opposing offense, and end drives.
Fangio has already considered retirement once this offseason but appears poised to return to the team. With his importance to the organization and its hopes of returning to the proverbial mountaintop, keeping him happy and giving him the players he needs to execute his scheme is paramount.
Unless general manager Howie Roseman can get an otherworldly haul for Carter, which he could have after the 2024 season but likely would not in which the big man would be a one-year loaner on an expiring deal, the team and its star tackle must get a deal done and ensure that the former Bulldog stays put in the City of Brotherly Love, giving the Eagles a chance to stay in any game defensively for the foreseeable future.
