Elgton Jenkins, Browns Reportedly Agree to Contract, OL Released by Packers for Failed Physical

Paul KasabianMar 10, 2026

The Cleveland Browns will sign offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins to a two-year, $24 million contract with $20 million guaranteed, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

The Packers released Jenkins on Monday. Per ESPN's Rob Demovsky, who cited the NFL's daily transaction file, Green Bay let him go with a "failed physical" designation.

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provided more information on the move to release Jenkins, who suffered a fracture in his lower left leg during his team's 10-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 10.

"The move was made primarily for salary-cap reasons – Jenkins counted $24 million against the cap and the release provides the Packers with $19.5 million of cap space. Between the trade of Rashan Gary to Dallas and the Jenkins release, the Packers have cleared $30 million in cap space.

"The decision to release Jenkins was affected by an ankle injury he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles that ended his season. Jenkins' move from left guard, where he was a staple for most of his career, to center was not smooth and the combination of his cap number and the development of Sean Rhyan as his replacement led to the move."

The Packers selected Jenkins, a former Mississippi State star, with a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He remained in town for seven seasons and made the Pro Bowl for his work in the 2020 and 2022 campaigns.

Overall, Jenkins played in 96 games (94 starts) during his time in Green Bay. He's primarily been a left guard during his career but saw action at center in 2025 and has even worked a bit at both tackle spots as well.

He's part of a massive offensive line overhaul in Cleveland, as noted by ESPN's Field Yates.

Overall, this looks like a solid move for Cleveland, which sorely needed more OL help and got it with Jenkins. The hope, obviously, is that he's able to return to form after his season-ending injury and able to contribute off the jump as Cleveland tries to bounce back from a tough 5-12 season. Having Jenkins in the mix as part of a retooled offensive line can certainly help.
