Geno Smith's Jets Reunion Trolled by NFL Fans After Reported Trade with Raiders

Doric SamMar 10, 2026

One of New York's prodigal sons is on his way back to the Big Apple.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the New York Jets have acquired veteran quarterback Geno Smith and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Smith started his career with New York as a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

This is a reunion that no one expected or asked for, so fans on social media couldn't help but troll the Jets' newest acquisition:

SNY's Connor Hughes reported earlier on Tuesday that "all signs are pointing toward" the Jets acquiring Smith. Hughes added that Smith isn't the only signal-caller the Jets are eyeing.

"I've been told that the Jets would prefer, if they can make it work financially, to add two veteran quarterbacks this offseason, one being Geno Smith, one being Carson Wentz, creating almost a similar situation to what you saw with the [New York] Giants a year ago with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston," Hughes explained.

Smith is coming off a disastrous 2025 campaign in which he led the NFL with 17 interceptions. The team finished with a 3-14 record and earned the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, where it is expected to select Indiana quarterback and 2025 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.

The Jets also went 3-14 but lost out on the chance to add Mendoza after falling to the No. 2 pick, leading general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn to go down the veteran quarterback route.

Adding Smith gives the Jets a reliable starter who should be motivated to bounce back from his disappointing 2025 season. New York could use one of its late-round draft picks to add a rookie quarterback, giving Smith the chance to be a mentor in his return to the East Coast.

The Jets will have three first-round picks in the 2027 draft, and it's clear that they are expecting to land their franchise quarterback when the time comes. For now, it's up to Smith to bridge the gap as the team continues its rebuild under Glenn and Mougey.
