Skenes shut down the Mexico order over four innings. He struck out seven batters and even earned praise from Kevin Durant, who was in attendance at Houston's Daikin Park.
The Americans also flashed their defense in the win, especially Bobby Witt Jr. at shortstop. The Kansas City Royals infielder made a pair of stellar plays, one in the fourth and the other in the fifth.
Team USA is now up to 3-0 in Pool B action. It has an opportunity to clinch a perfect record and first place in Pool B on Tuesday against Italy.
