Malik Willis Reacts to $67.5M Dolphins Contract on Video, Shows Love to Packers Fans in Post

After reportedly agreeing to a deal with the Miami Dolphins in free agency on Monday, quarterback Malik Willis discussed how he plans to succeed as a starting NFL quarterback.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Willis offered his perspective, saying, "All you can do is be genuine with yourself and do what you can to put everything that you have on the table. All you can do is do your part and hold guys accountable, as well as hold yourself accountable, and not be afraid for all those things to play together."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Dolphins signed Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract with $45 million guaranteed, just hours after they announced the release of longtime starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Originally a third-round pick out of Liberty in 2022, Willis had limited opportunities with the Tennessee Titans over his first two seasons before getting traded to Green Bay.

Willis started three games as a rookie, going 1-2 and completing 50.8 percent of his passes for 276 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 123 yards and one score.

After barely playing in 2023, Willis was traded to Green Bay to be the backup to Jordan Love. Willis was primarily a backup, but he impressed when called upon to start over the past two seasons.

In 2024, Willis went 2-0 in two starts, and over seven appearances overall, he completed 74.1 percent of his passing attempts for 550 yards, three touchdowns and no picks to go along with 138 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Although Willis lost his only start last season, he went an impressive 30-of-35 as a passer in four games, throwing for 422 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, and rushing for 123 yards and two scores.

Willis is a true dual-threat quarterback, and given that he is still only 26 years of age, he was by far the most intriguing quarterback available in free agency.

He stood out as a worthwhile gamble for the Dolphins after they decided to part ways with Tagovailoa, who went 44-32 in six seasons as Miami's starter.

The Dolphins have the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, meaning they are not picking high enough to land a quarterback who is widely considered to be a potential franchise guy.

That made free agency the most logical route for Miami, and rather than signing a stopgap veteran such as Kirk Cousins or Geno Smith, new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan banked on Willis' upside.

Now, Willis will be tasked with helping the Dolphins rebound after missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
