Dre'Mont Jones, Patriots Agree to Contract After Ravens' Maxx Crosby Trade in NFL Free Agency

Julia StumbaughMar 9, 2026

The Baltimore Ravens are losing a key defender from last season in the wake of their trade for Maxx Crosby.

Former Ravens defensive end Dre'Mont Jones signed a three-year, $39 million deal with the New England Patriots in free agency, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday.

The Ravens "made a strong push to retain Jones" before he signed with the Patriots, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Jones, acquired from the Tennessee Titans in a midseason trade last November, contributed 2.5 sacks, 17 tackles and 15 quarterback hits in nine games as a Raven.

The news of his departure comes shortly after the Ravens reportedly bolstered their defense by trading two first-round picks to acquire Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jones is set to receive $14.5 million in the first year of the contract, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Patriots had $43.3 million in cap space for next season heading into free agency, according to Over the Cap.

Jones had recorded 4.5 sacks in nine games with the Titans prior to the trade, bringing his full-season total to a season-high 7.0 sacks.

He also contributed 51 pressures across the full season, which ranked 25th out of 115 edge defenders in 2025, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Patriots got a close look at Jones last season when he played his new team twice, both as a member of the Titans in Week 7 and while playing for the Ravens in Week 16. He recorded a sack in both games.

The New England pass rush ranked among the bottom half of the league by recording 35 sacks during the 2025 regular season.

The Patriots could be hoping that bolstering their pass rush will give the team its best chance of building on February's run to Super Bowl LX during Drake Maye's third season under center.

Jones, who was originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2019 draft, played four seasons for the Broncos before signing with the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2023 season.

The 29-year-old was released ahead of the 2025 campaign, then split last season between the Titans and Ravens before landing with the Patriots.
