Latest NFL Rumors Reveal DJ Moore's Reaction to Bears-Bills Trade Ahead of Free Agency

Wide receiver DJ Moore was reportedly thrilled when he got traded from the Chicago Bears to the Buffalo Bills last week.

According to SI.com's Albert Breer, Moore was "privately over the moon" upon hearing the news that he was being sent to Buffalo along with a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick.

Moore's agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, told ESPN's Adam Schefter (h/t ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg and Courtney Cronin) that the Bills were guaranteeing $15.5 million of Moore's $23.5 million base salary in 2028 as part of the deal, which suggests Buffalo is committed to Moore for the next few seasons.

The 28-year-old Moore spent the past three seasons in Chicago following a five-year run with the Carolina Panthers to start his career.

Moore has reached the 90-catch mark three times and the 1,100-yard mark four times in his career, and he has scored six or more touchdowns in each of the past four seasons.

After catching 96 passes for a career-high 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season with the Bears in 2023, his production began to dip.

He did set a career-high with 98 catches during quarterback Caleb Williams' rookie season in 2024, but he finished with just 966 yards to go along with six touchdowns.

Last season marked the worst statistical campaign of Moore's career by far, as he recorded 50 grabs for 682 yards and six scores.

Big things were expected out of Moore in Williams' second season, coupled with the arrival of head coach Ben Johnson, but the passing game took a by-committee approach rather than employing Moore as the clear No. 1 option like he had been in the past.

As a result, Moore, fellow wideouts Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, and tight end Colston Loveland all had between 44 and 58 catches, and between 661 and 713 yards.

Buffalo's offense has employed a similar "everybody eats" mentality over the past couple of seasons, but that was largely due to the lack of a clear WR1 following the decision to trade Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

Moore immediately fills the much-needed WR1 role in Buffalo, and he should be superstar quarterback Josh Allen's clear No. 1 option.

During his four years in Buffalo, Diggs was a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro who had at least 100 catches and 1,100 yards each year.

That type of production may not have been possible for Moore in Chicago because of the philosophy of Johnson's offense, but it could be realistic in Buffalo.

Despite their lack of weapons in the passing game, the Bills went 12-5 last season and reached the playoffs for a seventh consecutive year, making it to the AFC Divisional Round.

Even so, the Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott and promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady, meaning Buffalo could be even more offensively focused in 2026.

All of those things are positives for Moore, and they figure to contribute to a huge bounce back next season following his struggles with the Bears in 2025.
