Patriots' Super Bowl Title Odds Hinge on A.J. Brown Trade Amid Latest NFL Rumors

The New England Patriots have engaged the Philadelphia Eagles in trade discussions for superstar wide receiver AJ Brown, Josina Anderson reported.

She posted on X on March 6, "I'm told that the #Eagles have floated a 1st, 2nd, and a player asking price to the #Patriots in exchange for AJ Brown, at some point in talks, per league source."

In an update, she added, "From what I'm told earlier today, at some point in the latest talks between the #Eagles and #Patriots, an adjustment to a multi-asset asking price was floated," and that New England has maintained, at least to this point, that they would not give up a first-rounder.

While Brown had a down season, corralling 78 balls for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns, it came as part of a wildly inconsistent, tumultuous season for the Eagles offense that left the elite pass catcher upset at the entire unit, per Tim McManus of ESPN.

Even then, he still tallied just 10 yards less than the Patriots' leading receiver, Stefon Diggs, who the team will release at the beginning of the league season, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.

With Diggs about to be out of the equation, and the team in desperate need of a playmaker at the position, the team must go all-in in pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy and complete the trade for Brown.

A dominant wideout with the ability to change the game (see Week 3 vs. Los Angeles), he is the type of player who can benefit Maye and give him a target he can trust to be open, even when faced with a potent pass rush.

Oh, and head coach Mike Vrabel knows Brown well, having coached him from 2019 through 2021, when he rose to prominence as an elite receiver.

Do the Patriots have other issues to address that could make parting with draft picks problematic? Sure. The offensive line needs help after a poor postseason that saw Maye sacked a record 21 times. They could also use some edge rushers to create a greater pass rush.

With that said, Brown is still a legitimately great wide receiver and a player who can instantly improve the offense. The more defenses have to account for him, the less aggressive they can get.

Without the presence of a top-shelf player at the position this past season, teams could afford to tee off on Maye and dare him to find one of his receivers down the field, which he obviously struggled to do throughout the playoffs and in the biggest game of his young career.

Give him a weapon like Brown and a chance to make plays, then build the O-line around him and the result will be more consistent offensive output and a chance to keep up with other potent offenses in the upcoming season.
