World Baseball Classic 2026 Scores, Reaction from Sunday Pool Play Results Ahead of KO Bracket

Japan became the first team to lock in a spot in the 2026 World Baseball Classic quarterfinals on Sunday.

The Shohei Ohtani-led team won its third game of pool play over Australia at the Tokyo Dome. Japan will more than likely complete a perfect record in pool play against Czechia.

The Dominican Republic continued to show off its offensive fireworks in Miami, as it beat the Netherlands in seven innings.

Mexico had the standout performance across Sunday night's games, as it powered 16 runs across the plate against Brazil.

Pool A

Panama 4, Canada 3

Cuba moved level with Puerto Rico atop the Pool A standings with its win over Colombia.

The Cubans jumped out to an early lead thanks to a four-run first inning. Ariel Martinez and Erisbel Arruebarrena hit homers in the opening frame.

Cuba added another three runs in the sixth inning to expand the advantage over winless Colombia.

Panama earned its first win of the WBC with a 4-3 triumph over Canada that was powered by a three-run sixth inning.

Pool B

Mexico's bats came alive in its thumping of Brazil on Sunday night.

Jarren Duran, Alejandro Kirk, Alek Thomas and Julian Ornelas all homered in the 16-run outburst.

Italy scored seven runs across three innings to pick up its second win in Pool B.

Andrew Fischer and J.J. D'Orazio each homered in the third to bring the Italian offense to life.

Five Italian players had multiple hits to tie the United States and Mexico at 2-0 atop Pool B.

Pool C

Chinese Taipei 5, South Korea 4 (Final/10 innings)

Japan 4, Australia 3

Japan clinched a spot in the quarterfinals with its narrow win over Australia.

Masataka Yoshida's seventh-inning home run put Japan in the lead after the Aussies scored in the sixth.

Australia rallied with two runs in the ninth, but it was unable to complete the comeback against Japan.

Chinese Taipei knocked off South Korea in 10 innings in the other Pool C game at the Tokyo Dome.

Australia needs a win over South Korea on Monday to clinch second place in Pool C and earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Dominican Republic once again showed off its power in its 12-1 win over the Netherlands.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Junior Caminero, Austin Wells and Juan Soto all went yard for the Dominican Republic in the seven-inning contest.

The victory continued to set the stage for a world-class contest between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela on Wednesday to determine the Pool D winner .

Israel shutout Nicaragua in the other Pool D game on Sunday.

Harrison Bader had a pair of RBI and Dean Kremer threw 4.1 shutout innings to move Israel to 1-1.

Nicaragua was eliminated from advancing to the knockout round with the loss.
