Angel Reese Says 'It's an Honor' to Play for USA Women's Basketball at FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese gave her thoughts on suiting up for the United States women's basketball team at the upcoming 2026 FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament.

"I've watched USA basketball for a long time," Reese told reporters. "I think it's an honor to be able to be a part of this. Every little opportunity I'm gonna just maximize and hopefully one day I can be able to play on the 2028 team."

Reese is one of four players that will make their U.S. senior national team competitive debuts during the event. Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark and Kiki Iriafen are also set to make their first senior Team USA appearances.

While the United States has already clinched a spot in the World Cup by winning the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, the qualifiers should still give the team an opportunity to prepare for international competition.

Reese is looking to stand out in the event and potentially become an option for the U.S. squad at the 2028 Olympics, as she's coming off a WNBA season in which she earned her second consecutive All-Star nod.

She averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field with the Sky in 2025.

The FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament will be in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is set to run from Wednesday through March 17.
