Ravens Share 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Meme After Reported Maxx Crosby Trade with Raiders

Adam WellsMar 7, 2026

The Baltimore Ravens celebrated their acquisition of Maxx Crosby with a meme from a modern cinematic masterpiece.

On their official X account, the Ravens posted the iconic "what a lovely day" meme from Mad Max: Fury Road along with a smiling devil emoji.

The post comes after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Ravens were sending two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire Crosby, aka Mad Maxx.

Crosby received the "Mad Maxx" moniker when he was in college at Eastern Michigan. The timing makes perfect sense because he started playing for the Eagles in 2016, one year after the movie was released.

Of course, Fury Road was the fourth movie in the series. But it had come back into the spotlight after being dormant for 30 years following the 1985 release of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. For perspective, Crosby was born 12 years after that movie came out.

Beyond being a cool homage to one of the great action movies of the 21st century, it turns out that Crosby's style of play also made it easy to give him the "Mad Maxx" label.

After the Raiders drafted Crosby in the fourth round in 2019, then-head coach Jon Gruden spoke about his new defensive lineman's on-field attitude:

"He's 'Mad Maxx. He comes off the ball repeatedly with great effort. I like that relentless style he plays with. He's gotten bigger and stronger every year that he's played, and some of his second-effort production is what stands out the most, but he really tested well at the combine. He's got real big upside."

That relentless style made for a quick adjustment to the NFL for Crosby. He recorded 10 sacks as a rookie, finishing second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting to Nick Bosa.

Crosby has racked up an NFL-high 133 tackles for loss and 69.5 sacks in 110 games for the Raiders.

The Ravens are hoping to get the Mad Maxx version of Crosby on their defense going forward. They desperately need it after recording just 30 sacks as a team with the fifth-worst pass-rush win rate in the NFL last season.

It's a big bet to make, but everyone probably assumed that making a fourth Mad Max movie 30 years after the previous entry was a risky proposition.

Baltimore ended its franchise-long 31-year streak of not trading a first-round pick for a veteran player to make this deal happen. Now, it's up to Crosby and new head coach Jesse Minter to make it pay off.
