Latest Giants Rumors on Kenneth Walker III, Jeremiyah Love, RB Targets in NFL Free Agency
The New York Giants have investigated options ranging from star free agents to top draft prospects in their search for a running back this offseason, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Raanan reported that the Giants have "looked into" signing Kenneth Walker III, who is hitting free agency shortly after being named Super Bowl LX MVP with the Seattle Seahawks.
Other running back options for the Giants include free agents Travis Etienne Jr. and Rico Dowdle as well as draft prospect Jeremiyah Love, according to Raanan.
Raanan wrote that "Love impressed the Giants at last week's combine, according to multiple league sources."
The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs join the Giants as teams reportedly in the market for a running back this offseason, per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.
The Seahawks could also be in the mix if the team is forced to seek a replacement for Walker, who is projected by Spotrac to receive $9 million in annual average salary on his next contract.
Etienne's value is pegged by Spotrac at an annual average salary of $6.8 million, while Dowdle is projected to earn $6.5 million per year.
Love's rookie contract will make him an affordable option for next season, but it's not yet clear how long he'll be available when the NFL draft kicks off on April 23.
Bleacher Report's latest mock projected Love going to the Chiefs at No. 9, but Jones recently reported Kansas City doesn't think the former Notre Dame star will still be available at the pick.
Love might not even be available by the time the Giants come up at No. 5. ESPN's Turron Davenport recently reported that Love "ranks highly" on the draft board of the Tennessee Titans, who are heading into the draft with the No. 4 selection.
The likelihood of landing Love at No. 5, as well as how high a potential bidding war drives up running back prices, could influence how the Giants approach the position this offseason.
Adding an experienced veteran or a prospect with a high ceiling like Love could help John Harbaugh replicate the kind of success he had with the Baltimore Ravens' run game during his first season in New York.
