Kam Curl, Rams Reportedly Agree to $36M Contract After Trent McDuffie Trade with Chiefs

Adam WellsMar 6, 2026

Having already made a big splash by acquiring Trent McDuffie to address their cornerback room, the Los Angeles Rams are also keeping Kam Curl to ensure continuity at the safety position in 2026.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Rams and Curl have agreed to terms on a three-year, $36 million deal before the start of free agency.

Rapoport noted the deal could max out at $39 million.

The Rams made a move to shore up their secondary by acquiring McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs for a package of a draft pick, including the No. 29 selection in 2026.

Along with the trade, Rapoport noted McDuffie is expected to sign an extension with the Rams that will likely make him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Sauce Gardner is currently the league's highest-paid corner with an average annual salary of $30.1 million.

Having already gotten a deal done with Curl and McDuffie's pending extension, the Rams will have invested a lot of resources in their secondary since the start of the new year. They previously extended safety Quentin Lake on a three-year, $42 million deal on Jan. 1.

Curl was set to become a free agent prior to Friday's agreement. He just finished up a two-year, $9 million contract with the Rams signed in March 2024 after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Washington Commanders.

The 26-year-old has been a valued member of the Rams secondary. They moved him into more a deep safety role in Los Angeles after playing primarily in the box with Washington.

Curl responded with a career-high nine passes defensed in 2024 and 122 combined tackles in 2025. He has also been extremely durable throughout his career, missing more than one game in a season just once in the past six years.

Maintaining continuity with Curl and Lake at safety isn't a bad strategy for a Rams team that was right on the cusp of reaching the Super Bowl last season and figures to be among the top teams in the NFC again in 2026.
