Tyler Biadasz, Chargers Reportedly Agree to $30M Contract, Updated Salary Cap for NFL Free Agency

Adam WellsMar 6, 2026

The Los Angeles Chargers got an early start on free agency by adding Tyler Biadasz to help shore up their offensive line.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Biadasz has agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chargers to become their starting center.

Jim Harbaugh's team is entering the free-agent period next week with an NFL-high $99.5 million in cap space.

Exact terms of Biadasz's deal and how it will impact their cap are unknown at this point, but they are still set up to remain active as they look to build up the roster coming off playoff appearances in each of Harbaugh's first two seasons as head coach.

Biadasz was a surprising addition to the free-agent market after being released by the Washington Commanders on Feb. 26. He was set to enter the final season of his three-year, $30 million contract signed as a free agent in March 2024.

The 28-year-old Biadasz spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys.

There wasn't any obvious reason for the move at the time. The Commanders' cap siutation was fine, and Biadasz was only going to count $8.1 million against their 2026 salary cap.

Of the many things that went wrong for Washington last season, the offensive line really wasn't among them even if it wasn't a stellar unit. The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala noted the Commanders' 208 pressures allowed were the seventh-fewest in the NFL.

Per Pro Football Focus, Biadasz ranked in the top 12 out of 40 qualified centers in run block grade and overall grade last season.

The Chargers will be happy to bring Biadasz into the fold after all of the issues they had along the offensive line in 2025. Their issues started early when Rashawn Slater suffered a torn patellar tendon in training camp that ended his season.

Joe Alt played just six games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. The Chargers ranked 31st in run-block win rate and last in pass-block win rate, per ESPN.com.

Those issues in protection resulted in Justin Herbert being sacked a career-high 54 times in the regular season. He was also taken down six more times in the Chargers' 16-3 playoff loss to the New England Patriots.

If Biadsz is able to get the Chargers close to just being a league-average offensive line in 2026, their offense should be significantly improved given how well Herbert played last season despite being under constant duress.
