Josh Allen, Bills' Offense Hyped by NFL Fans After DJ Moore Trade Ahead of Free Agency, Draft
After previously insisting that his team didn't need a true No. 1 wide receiver, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has changed his tune with a huge trade to acquire DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears prior to the start of free agency.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Bills are acquiring Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Bears in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick.
It's not a secret that a go-to wide receiver has been missing from the Bills offense since Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans after the 2023 season.
As you might expect, the Bills finally deciding to address that issue and get Josh Allen more help in their quest to win a Super Bowl has been met with enthusiasm from fans and analysts.
If the Bills were going to make a big move for a wide receiver, Moore always made sense as the type of player they would pursue. With his 29th birthday approaching on April 14, he's still young enough that they don't have to be concerned about his talent falling off right away.
Moore's numbers did dip in the last two seasons with the Bears. He put up 1,648 yards and 12 touchdowns in 34 games during that span, even prompting Caleb Williams to say during his rookie year that it was "frustrating" their chemistry didn't develop as expected.
Williams did praise Moore as having "special" talent, so it's not as if they were at odds with each other.
There was a bit of a styles clash between Moore and Williams because Williams is a quarterback who often likes to hold onto the ball and improvise. He has ranked in the top 10 in longest average time to throw in each of his first two seasons, including second in 2025 at 3.2 seconds.
Moore's skill set is built more on getting the ball in his hands and letting him use his strength to overpower defenders for yards after the catch.
That will fit in nicely with the Bills because the strength of their offense is running the ball, opening up RPO opportunities and quick passes from Allen that will take advantage of Moore's greatest strength.
It doesn't hurt that new Bills head coach Joe Brady was the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator from 2020 to '21 when Moore was their No. 1 receiver. He had more than 1,100 yards in both of those season and ranked third in yards per catch (18.1) in 2020.
The expectation in Buffalo for years has been a Super Bowl. Allen has had the Bills on the door step several times, including two AFC Championship Game appearances in 2020 and '24, but they have yet to get over the hump.

Moore's addition will help solve one of the biggest issues that the Bills had entering the offseason. This move also allows them to focus the rest of their offseason energy on addressing other areas of the roster.
