Jonathan Allen Reportedly Expected to Be Released by Vikings, Updated Salary Cap Ahead of NFL FA
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to release defensive tackle Jonathan Allen due to salary cap constraints, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Minnesota is currently $44.5 million over the cap, via Spotrac.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert noted that releasing Allen would save the Vikings $6.5 million in 2026 cap space with free agency drawing closer, though.

Minnesota has already looked to make multiple cost-cutting moves this offseason, reportedly informing running back Aaron Jones and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave that they'll be released barring a trade.
The Vikings are also open to trading outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard while they look to work through the salary cap deficit, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
As for Allen, he spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Washington Commanders before signing a three-year contract worth $51 million to join Minnesota as a free agent in March 2025.
The two-time Pro Bowler started all 17 regular-season games during his first year with the Vikings, racking up 68 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Allen also recorded 34 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.
Despite the 31-year-old's expected release, teams could still show interest in him as a free agent with the belief that a change of scenery can help him look like his former self.
After all, Allen compiled 73 quarterback hits and 25 sacks across his final four seasons with the Commanders.
The NFL's legal tampering period will begin on Monday at 12 p.m. ET.
