Panthers vs. Cardinals Announced for Hall of Fame Game on 2026 NFL Preseason Schedule
The first game of the 2026 NFL preseason schedule will be a battle between NFC foes.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter relayed Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers will face the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, to kick off the preseason campaign. The choice is all the more notable because Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald and Panthers legend Luke Kuechly are both members of the 2026 Hall of Fame class:

They will be joined by Drew Brees, Roger Craig and Adam Vinatieri as this year's Hall of Fame inductees.
The game itself will take place Aug. 6 before the players are officially inducted and will give Arizona and Carolina fans who are in attendance for the celebration an early look at their respective teams.
As a result of being scheduled for the Hall of Fame contest, both the Panthers and Cardinals will play four preseason games. That also means they will both report to training camp earlier than the league's other teams and have more time to prepare for the 2026 campaign.
Starters and key players likely won't see much playing time in the preseason opener, but it will give rookies and players who are on the roster bubble the opportunity to make an impression in front of a national audience.
The Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Detroit Lions 34-7 in last season's Hall of Fame Game while players such as Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown did not take the field.
Arizona will be looking to bounce back from a 3-14 season with plenty of changes.
The Hall of Fame Game will be the debut of new head coach Mike LaFleur, while Kyler Murray will no longer be under center. Schefter reported Tuesday the team informed the quarterback it plans to release him.
As for the Panthers, they are coming off an NFC South title, although there is also plenty of room for improvement since their record was just 8-9.
Quarterback Bryce Young took significant strides last season and will look to build on that, although he likely won't be doing much building during the Hall of Fame Game when other players are on the field instead of the starters.
