New Mike Evans Rumors on Potential NFL Free Agency Landing Spots, WR's Market 'Difficult to Gauge'

Julia StumbaughMar 4, 2026

NFL insiders apparently have a range of opinions on what wide receiver Mike Evans will make on his next contract after hitting free agency this offseason.

CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones wrote Wednesday that the price for the longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers star is "going to be difficult to gauge."

"He will be 33 this season coming off an injured year, and there aren't many comparisons to him out there," Jones wrote.

Evans could be seeking $25 million per year on his next deal, but "sources believe he will get something closer to $20 million," Jones wrote.

According to Jones, the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs haven't shown early interest in Evans.

Jones named the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders and New York Giants as "teams to watch" this free agency.

Evans spent his first 12 seasons with the Buccaneers, but his agent Deryk Gilmore has previously said his client's next team "could be Tampa."

Gilmore has also confirmed that his client plans to consider other teams in free agency.

"I just think that he basically wants to look at all 32 teams," Gilmore said on a Feb. 24 episode of The Drive with TKras (h/t Pewter Report).

Gilmore added that the Bucs' elimination from postseason contention last spring had been "heartbreaking" for Evans, and that he wanted to compete for a Super Bowl.

Evans tied Jerry Rice's record for the most consecutive seasons with 1,000 receiving yards when he reached the milestone for an 11th straight campaign last January.

He fell short of reaching the plateau for a record-breaking 12th time after injuries including a concussion, a broken collarbone and a hamstring issue limited him to eight games in 2025.

Given Evans' consistency before his injury-shortened season, whichever team signs him this spring will hope to see him bounce back during a healthier 2026 campaign.

He could be a game-changing addition to some of the passing offenses that could use a WR1 upgrade this offseason, including Josh Allen and the Bills or Brock Purdy and the 49ers.

Evans will be able to officially begin speaking with teams next Monday at noon ET. He could sign his next contract as soon as next Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
