Roster Analysis
2 of 3Current Superstars
This year's release once again features one of the most expansive rosters in WWE gaming history.
With well over 100 Raw and SmackDown Superstars to choose from, including top names such as cover athlete CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton, Jey Uso, and Brock Lesnar, players can recreate epic encounters, create fresh dream matches, and book their ideal WrestleMania cards.
Rhea Ripley reigns over the current roster as the highest-rated current Superstar available, becoming the first woman to achieve that sole distinction. Becky Lynch, Naomi, Liv Morgan, Stephanie Vaquer, and Charlotte Flair all rank in the 90s, making this one of the most impressive women's rosters in WWE and 2K history.
NXT is well-represented, with a wealth of bright young stars, including first-time inclusions Blake Monroe, Hank and Tank, Karmen Petrovic, Myles Borne, Ricky Saints, Tavion Heights, Wren Sinclair, Yoshiki Inamura, and Zaria.
Even AAA is represented, though mostly through DLC as part of the Ringside Pass feature. Mr. Iguana, Flammer, Octagon Jr., Pagano, Psycho Clown, Lady Shani, La Parka, and El Hijo del Vikingo will all be available for gamers to play as, representing a massive lucha libre and international injection into this year's slate of Superstars.
Legends
The legends roster is a who's who of WWE history, with countless Hall of Famers and icons, though few new additions.
Demolition's Ax, Smash, and Crush all make their debuts here, long overdue for the immortality that comes with appearing in a WWE video game. The former two will also take their place in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026, another honor that should have come far sooner than it did.
Speaking of should-be Hall of Famers, "The Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman joins Demolition as DLC legends in this year's game. The former Hollywood Blondes teammate of "Stunning" Steve Austin and Hart Foundation member is one of the most influential stars of the 1990s and should make for a fun addition.
Austin, in his "Stone Cold" persona, headlines the list of legends, rated a game-high 97, though he does not sit on that pedestal alone. John Cena also rates at 97.
The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H, "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, Eddie Guerrero, "Demon" Finn Balor, Dusty Rhodes, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and AJ Lee are just some of the competitors rated 90 or higher that fans can utilize to create epic encounters with the marquee stars of today in the ultimate pro wrestling mega show.
Chyna, Sensational Sherri, and Victoria are all here, too. Three women who have long been underrated, under-represented, and undervalued, all present and ready to be matched up with the Superstars of today that they have helped inspire.
Overall Roster Grade: A+
Gameplay Features
3 of 3New Match Types
There are four new match types for gamers to utilize in this year's release, adding to an already stacked menu.
First up is the Dumpster Match, where players will square off with each other or the computer with one goal in mind: incapacitate your opponent long enough to put them in a dumpster and slam the lid closed. Popularized by the New Age Outlaws, Cactus Jack, and Chainsaw Charlie at WrestleMania XIV and brought back to prominence by Michin and Chelsea Green, the contest will make for one of the more unique experiences in the game.
Next is the "I Quit" Match, a grueling contest in which the only way to win is to beat down your opponent so badly that they have no choice but to utter the words, "I quit." Players can do so either by bashing them with weapons, pummeling them senseless, or trapping them in submissions.
Fans of the current WWE product recently saw Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre wage war in a 3 Stages of Hell Match and now, they can replicate that contest in WWE 2K26. A best two-out-of-three-falls match that allows the gamer to select the three match types involved, it is a physically demanding contest that forces them to win the first two falls or risk going to a third, sudden death-style conclusion.
The Inferno Match returns to WWE gaming in 2026, bringing a fan-favorite of the Attitude Era back to gaming consoles around the world. In this one, the objective is easy: ignite your opponent on fire while flames surround the ring. Not exactly PG, but neither is this year's game, which is rated Teen.
Gameplay Mechanics
There is nothing worse than fighting into the crowd or around a backstage area and being held up by invisible barriers that halt progression and limit the space in which gamers can control their Superstars.
Those are fewer and further between this year, allowing for a more organic and natural out-of-ring fight.
Game developers have also improved interactions with props and weapons. Players can utilize a shopping cart, with the ability to trap wrestlers in it or hit them with it. Thumbtacks are new to this year's release, allowing fans to recreate epic encounters, with painful repercussions.
Championships can be utilized like never before and crowd brawling is expanded to create the most lifelike experience for gamers.
Like each year's release before it, the team behind the WWE 2K series has strove to consistently improve the gaming experience and make it as true to life as possible. The latest updates and gameplay mechanic changes accomplish just that.
