Fresh MLB Rumors Update Isaac Paredes Trade Talks Between Red Sox, Astros Ahead of 2026 Season
Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has spent much of the offseason on the trade block, but it sounds like he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the "necessary move" for Houston is to trade Paredes for "a left-handed-hitting outfielder, an idea the Astros have discussed most thoroughly with the Boston Red Sox." Rosenthal went on to add that talks between the Astros and Red Sox "stalled, however, and the clubs have not been in recent contact."
The Red Sox have been pursuing Paredes for quite some time. It was reported last month that Boston was hoping to acquire him in a three-team trade that also included the St. Louis Cardinals before talks broke down between all sides.

The Astros already have a strong infield combination with first baseman Christian Walker, second baseman Jose Altuve, third baseman Carlos Correa and shortstop Jeremy Peña, leaving Paredes as the odd man out. Per Rosenthal, Correa acknowledged the surplus last month, saying, "I'm not a GM, but I know that only four infielders can play at one time."
Houston could become more motivated to trade Paredes as the start of the 2026 season draws nearer, but it doesn't appear that many teams besides Boston are jumping at the chance to acquire him.
