Matthew Stafford, Rams Have Had 'Great Dialogue' amid Contract Rumors, Sean McVay Says
The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to discussions about Matthew Stafford's future, and head coach Sean McVay provided an update as the quarterback prepares to enter the final year of his contract.
"We've had great dialogue," McVay told reporters Tuesday. "We'll work through all of those things."
Stafford's future is under the spotlight since there is only one more season on his deal, but he is also 38 years old and dealt with significant concerns about his back before the 2025 campaign.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
There was retirement speculation after the Rams lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, although NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had a positive report for the quarterback and team last month.
"Sean McVay telling reporters today that Stafford will not need surgery to fix that disc issue, that is an excellent thing for all sides," Rapoport said. "McVay also said if Stafford does want to return—and my understanding is, at least a couple days ago, that was his plan—that of course the Rams want him back."
It was quite the 2025 season for Stafford considering it started with him sidelined for portions of training camp as he spent time in a healing chamber:
Yet he didn't miss a single game and turned in a career season while completing 65 percent of his passes for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He led the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns and took home the first MVP of his career as a result.
Los Angeles fell one win short of the Super Bowl, although that was hardly Stafford's fault considering he threw for 374 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions against a dominant Seahawks defense in that loss.
He may be on the closing stretch of his career with questions about his long-term future, but nobody played at a higher level than Stafford last season.
And McVay's comments indicated the Rams would like him to continue playing for the team even after his current contract expires.
