Marshon Lattimore Reportedly Expected to Be Released by Commanders, Salary Cap Savings Revealed
The Washington Commanders are releasing veteran cornerback Marshon Lattimore, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Cutting him before the start of the NFL's 2026 league year will save the team $18.5 million.
Given the cap implications, the four-time Pro Bowler was an obvious candidate to be let go.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
The Commanders already have $67.6 million to spend, but the front office will want to be aggressive in improving the roster after a 5-12 finish. With franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels still earning a fraction of his market value, this is the time for the front office to spend big.
Lattimore's general decline made the decision to sever ties easier as well.
Injuries have limited him to just 35 combined appearances since 2022. He's continuing to recover from the torn ACL he suffered last November.
When healthy, Lattimore was a solid corner for Washington but one who didn't live up to the reputation he had built with the New Orleans Saints. As a member of the Commanders, he allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 57.4 percent of their attempts with a 95.6 passer rating, per Pro Football Reference.
Given the questions his ACL tear raise about his performance moving forward, Lattimore may have to wait for the bigger dominoes to fall before he gets a serious contract offer.
Four cornerbacks cracked the top 50 for Bleacher Report's free agency big board: Riq Woolen, Jaylen Watson, Alontae Taylor and Jamel Dean. Given their flexibility, the Commanders could make a run at some players from that group.
Once some other corners have signed, Lattimore's market should begin to form.
