Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love and the rest of the running back prospects at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine made history on Saturday.

The overall 40-yard dash times of the running back group at Lucas Oil Stadium represented the fastest in Combine history:

Love posted an official 4.36-second 40-yard dash, the second-best mark at his position.

Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. ran a 4.33-second 40, the best finish in his group.

Washington had an emotional reaction to his accomplishment.

Wake Forest's Demond Claiborne finished just behind Washington and Love by posting a 4.37-second 40-yard dash.

Love certified his status as one of the top prospects in the draft on Saturday, as expectations were already high following an impressive 2025 season with the Fighting Irish.

He rushed for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns in 12 games, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Love also factored into Notre Dame's passing attack, hauling in 27 receptions for 280 yards and three scores.

The 20-year-old finished No. 3 in Heisman Trophy voting for his efforts.

Love shouldn't have to wait too long to hear his name called in the 2026 NFL draft, as he was listed as the No. 1 running back and No. 3 overall prospect on the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

As for teams further down in the draft order, they should still have plenty of options to choose from if they're interested in adding speed to their backfields.
