Caleb Downs Won't Work Out at 2026 NFL Combine, Measurements for Ohio State Safety Revealed
NFL scouts may have to wait another month to get another look at the potential top safety in the 2026 draft.
Ohio State safety Caleb Downs won't work out Friday during the 2026 NFL combine in Indianapolis, per ESPN's Matt Miller.
Downs could participate in Ohio State's pro day on March 26, Miller noted.

Earlier on Friday, Downs measured in at 6'0" and 206 pounds, with an arm span of 30 1/4", a handspan of 9 1/2" and a wingspan of 73 1/4".
Downs is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect and No. 1 safety available in the draft on the latest Bleacher Report big board.
After playing a key role in Ohio State's run to a national championship in 2024, Downs recorded 68 tackles (5.0 for loss) alongside two interceptions and 1.0 sacks during his junior season with the Buckeyes.
He is projected to go to the Cleveland Browns with the No. 6 pick of the upcoming draft on the latest B/R mock.
B/R NFL scout Daniel Harms described Downs as a player with a "versatile skillset to succeed wherever a defense needs him."
Harms noted, however, that Downs could "show more from a single-high skillset with speed and range moving backward."
"The instincts are there, but seeing more proof of concept would help," Harms wrote.
While Downs sat out Friday's testing day at the combine, Oregon's Dillon Thieneman (B/R's No. 27 prospect and No. 3 safety) might have boosted his draft stock with strong testing results in Indianapolis.
Thieneman impressed with an unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash after hitting 41.5 inches on the vertical jump.
Toledo's Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 19 prospect and No. 2 safety on the B/R big board, posted slightly less impressive numbers during testing.
The safety recorded an unofficial 40-yard dash time of 4.52 seconds and a vertical of 35.5 inches.
How Downs performs at Ohio State's pro day next month could ultimately impact where all three of these safeties land when the 2026 NFL draft kicks off in Pittsburgh on April 23.
