Tyler Seguin Reportedly Out for Season, How Injury Impacts Stars' Salary Cap Amid NHL Trade Rumors

The Dallas Stars filed paperwork declaring Tyler Seguin out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season due to a torn ACL, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Dallas will get full relief from Seguin's $9.85 million cap hit by ruling him out for the rest of the season, per Friedman.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic previously reported that the Stars have discussed potentially trading for Vancouver Canucks forward Evander Kane if Seguin were to be ruled out for the year.

Nashville Predators forward Steven Stamkos would also be willing to waive his no-movement clause for a trade to Dallas despite not actively seeking a change of scenery, per LeBrun.

As for Seguin, he suffered the torn ACL during the Stars' 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Dec. 2 after getting tangled up with Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov.

He later underwent surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee on Dec. 16, with Dallas announcing that he would be reevaluated after the Olympic break.

This season marks the second consecutive year in which Seguin will miss significant time, as he only appeared in 20 games during his 2024-25 campaign after undergoing a procedure to repair a left side femoralacetabular impingement and the hip labrum.

During the 2025-26 season, Seguin amassed 10 assists and seven goals across 27 appearances.

The Stars currently hold a 35-14-9 record, sitting at No. 3 in the Central Division standings.

With Seguin remaining sidelined, Dallas could be active before the NHL trade window closes on March 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
