New NFL Trade Rumors on Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence and Predicting Top Landing Spots

Mike ChiariFeb 26, 2026

The New York Giants reportedly have differing viewpoints on the availability of pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Giants are listening to trade offers on Thibodeaux, and opposing teams believe New York will ultimately move him.

"Multiple sources told ESPN they'd expect Thibodeaux to fetch a late Day 2 or early Day 3 pick," ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported.

However, the Giants' new coaching staff led by head coach John Harbaugh reportedly "loves" Lawrence, and does not have designs on trading him.

The G-Men selected Thibodeaux with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, and while it initially seemed as though the plan was for him to be the team's main edge-rusher for years to come, the outlook changed over time.

New York acquired Brian Burns in a trade with the Carolina Panthers prior to the 2024 season and selected Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL draft, knocking Thibodeaux down to third in the pass-rushing pecking order off the edge.

Thibodeaux is a high-end talent, as evidenced by his 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 2023, but he hasn't come close to that level of production since the additions of Burns and Carter.

His numbers dropped to 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 2024, and then a career-low 2.5 sacks and no forced fumbles last season.

Since Thibodeaux is entering the final year of his contract in 2026, he could be the perfect buy-low rental for a team in need of pass-rushing help.

The San Francisco 49ers were last in the NFL last season with only 20 sacks due largely to Nick Bosa missing much of the season due to injury. Thibodeaux would be a nice insurance policy if Bosa doesn't recover as quickly as hoped, or he could slot into a complementary role.

Other teams with playoff aspirations in 2026 who struggled to sack the quarterback in 2025 include the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers.

All of them could offer Thibodeaux fairly significant playing time and the chance to earn a long-term contract if he delivers next season.

As for Lawrence, the 28-year-old veteran is coming off a tough campaign after earning Pro Bowl nods in each of the previous three seasons.

The 2019 first-round pick set a new career high with nine sacks in 2024, only to finish with a half-sack last season, which marked a career low.

That level of production is nowhere near good enough for a player set to count nearly $27 million against the salary cap next season, but there is plenty of hope for a rebound.

Harbaugh brought in former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson as New York's new DC after Wilson helped defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons register a career-high 11 sacks last season en route to a First Team All-Pro selection.

Because of that, there isn't much reason to think the Giants would consider moving Lawrence until they see what he can do with Wilson's guidance.

The Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars are among the teams with clear needs on their defensive lines, though, particularly on the interior, and any of them would undoubtedly benefit from adding a player of Lawrence's caliber.
