Max Scherzer's Wife Posts Daughter's Letter to Blue Jays Hoping Dad Returns in Trending Photo

After the Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a deal to bring Max Scherzer back for the 2026 season, a letter from the three-time Cy Young winner's daughter in which she expressed hope her dad would remain with the AL champs was posted online.

The letter, posted by his wife Erica May on her Instagram, explained how their "whole family loves spending time in Toronto" and ended with her saying she is "looking forward to coming back next season."

"Dear Blue Jays, I am so sorry that you didn't win the World Series. I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team. My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad. We loved the aquarium, CN Tower and of course, the stadium. I am looking forward to coming back next season. Love, Max Scherzer's daughter."

Scherzer originally joined the Blue Jays on a one-year deal last offseason. He overcame injuries during the regular season to play a key role during their playoff run to the World Series.

In three postseason starts, Scherzer had a 3.77 ERA over 14.1 innings. He got the win in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners, marking his first postseason victory since 2019 with the Washington Nationals.

Despite already having a Hall-of-Fame resume, Scherzer said immediately after Toronto's Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series that he planned to return in 2026.

It wasn't always clear where Scherzer would end up playing. There were rumors about potential interest from the San Francisco Giants because their new manager, Tony Vitello, was an assistant on the Missouri staff when Scherzer pitched for the Tigers from 2004 to '06.

Speculation about Scherzer going back to the Blue Jays picked up steam in recent weeks due to injuries to Shane Bieber and Bowden Francis, with the latter set to miss all of 2026 after undergoing elbow surgery.

The two sides were finally able to get an agreement in place on Thursday, with the Blue Jays giving Scherzer a full no-trade clause as part of the deal.

There's no indication that the letter from Scherzer's daughter helped push the deal over the edge, but it's hard not to read it without then giving him a contract to keep the entire family around based on how well things went for them in 2025.

The Blue Jays will be hoping those good vibes remain in place this season as they look to get over that final hurdle to win their first World Series title since 1993.
