'Moronic' C.J. Stroud Trade Rumors Blasted by Texans GM Ahead of Contract Extension Talks
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was the subject of trade speculation after the team's disappointing playoff exit, but that has quickly been put to rest.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio told reporters at the NFL scouting combine on Tuesday that Stroud is "not going anywhere," and he called the trade rumors surrounding the signal-caller "moronic."
After completing his third year in the NFL, Stroud is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. The 24-year-old declared his desire to remain with the Texans on a long-term deal after the team's loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round, which was one of the worst games of his career with four interceptions in the first half.

NFL Draft Trades We Wish Happened 😭

Biggest Questions Surrounding 2026 NFL Season After the Draft 🤔
"I want to be here for as long as I can. I love the city of Houston," Stroud said last month. "It really hurts me. I wish it didn't go that way. My intent was to go out there and ball."
After being named the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Stroud has failed to perform at the same level he showed in his first season. Still, he's helped lead Houston to three straight playoff appearances, and he's considered one of the brightest young stars in the league. In 14 games this past season, he threw for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
It sounds like Caserio and the Texans don't plan on giving up on Stroud anytime soon, as they will likely prioritize a contract extension for him after shutting down the trade rumors on Tuesday.
