Bray Wyatt Shining in Secondary Storyline Before WWE SummerSlam 2015

Bray Wyatt is one of the most talented all-around performers in WWE today, and his addition to the 2015 SummerSlam pay-per-view card helps to make this feel like the second-most important show of the year for the company.

Any great wrestling card has marquee main events, but there also have to be midcard matches fans can care about. While the storytelling hasn’t been great, the presence of Wyatt in a tag team match adds much-needed depth to the SummerSlam card.

Despite the lackluster build, Wyatt has sold the WWE Universe on the feud against Roman Reigns, and the subsequent tag team match between Wyatt and devout follower Luke Harper against Reigns and Dean Ambrose will be incredible in and out of the ring.

The key in the weeks leading up to the match is putting each person in this program in the right position to succeed. Wyatt, who has been incredible on the mic, deserves to carry the storyline by using his promos to tell a story. While many fans would prefer WWE give the cult leader better stories to tell, he is making do with what it has given him.

Ambrose and Harper are the best workers amongst this group, so letting them do the heavy lifting in the ring is ideal booking. From there, Reigns should be the guy in tag team matches who gets the hot tag. Since Reigns struggles at times stringing moves together, letting him get into the ring and hit all his spots before the conclusion of the match is how he should be booked.

What makes Wyatt so good is that his performances are elevating all three of the other men in this feud. Whether it’s because of his promos or his brutal and methodical style in the ring, Wyatt is one of the best in the business because of the fact that he has made everyone around him better. Even if the storyline stinks, Wyatt is going to sell the fans on the angle and the participants regardless.

One reason this angle has worked despite the lack of a deeper main storyline is the recommitment of Harper to The Wyatt Family. Bray’s explanation about how Harper was like a dog that ran away and was forced to come crawling back after not being able to make it on his own was genius.

With a man standing behind Wyatt who can legitimately instill fear into the hearts of fans and fellow competitors, it makes The Wyatt Family look strong again and brings back Wyatt’s cult-leader aura.

Another reason this is working is that The Wyatt Family is going against two-thirds of The Shield. Reigns and Ambrose are immensely popular as faces—Ambrose more so than Reigns—and any good heel needs a top babyface to make a storyline work. Wyatt and Harper have been great, but they are made even better by squaring off against fan favorites.

Add in Wyatt’s physically brutal and strategic methodical pace, and there are few wrestlers who encompass everything a WWE Superstar needs more than the leader of The Wyatt Family.

While the storyline with Reigns hasn’t been great, the performances of all the men involved—especially Wyatt—have made this a midcard angle worthy of the SummerSlam stage. Wrestling fans and WWE officials should be thanking Wyatt for elevating the August PPV.
