Canada head coach Jon Cooper previously told reporters on Saturday that Crosby skated and that he would be a "game-time decision" for the matchup.

Crosby did not play in Friday's semifinal win against Finland after being injured in the second period of Wednesday's game against Czechia. The Pittsburgh Penguins star appeared to be in discomfort on the bench after taking multiple hard hits, including a check from Ondrej Palat and a collision with Czechia's Martin Necas and Radko Gudas.

Crosby was visibly limping as he was helped down the tunnel midway through the second period. He did not return for the start of the third.

The Penguins captain was tied for second on Team Canada with six points (two goals, four assists) in three group stage games heading into Wednesday.

Canada was trailing Czechia 2-1 at the time of Crosby's exit from the game. They went on to win 4-3 in overtime.

Macklin Celebrini, the youngest member of the roster at age 19, replaced Crosby on Canada's top power-play unit for the remainder of the second and third periods.

Nick Suzuki took over Crosby's spot at even strength by centering Mitch Marner and Mark Stone.

With Connor McDavid still leading the top line, Sam Reinhart and Bo Horvat anchored the bottom six as Cooper shuffled his lines in Crosby's absence.

Defensemen Drew Doughty and Crosby are the only members of the Canadian roster with past Olympic experience after winning gold in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, where Crosby scored the gold medal-clinching goal, and 2014 Sochi Games.

Crosby, 38, passed Wayne Gretzky for the most point-per-game seasons in NHL history by recording his 20th in 2024-25. He had 59 points (27 goals, 32 assists) in 56 games for the Penguins prior to the Olympic break.
