'I F--king Love It,' Manny Machado Hypes Dodgers' Spending Despite Padres Rivalry in Trending Video

Scott PolacekFeb 15, 2026

Some players on rival teams might be jealous of the Los Angeles Dodgers' spending.

But San Diego Padres star Manny Machado loves it.

"I f--king love it," he told reporters (NSFW video). "I love it. I mean, honestly, I think every team should be doing it. They've figured out a way to do it. S--t is f--king great for the game, honestly. I think every team has the ability to do it. So I hope all 30 teams can learn from that."

There is something to be said about Machado's comments.

After all, there is no salary cap in baseball that is preventing other teams from dishing out hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts. And every single team in the league is worth more than $1 billion with 16 of them worth at least $2 billion, per Forbes' 2025 valuations.

Throw in revenue sharing that means 48% of local revenues are distributed equally among the league's 30 teams, and owners of Major League Baseball teams aren't exactly hurting financially.

Many teams could spend more if they wanted to, and fans who pay higher ticket and concession prices every single year while hoping their teams break through with a roster talented enough to compete for a World Series title surely wish they would in an effort to get better players.

There is also the collective bargaining agreement situation, as it is set to expire after the 2026 season. Players inherently want teams to spend more money, so Machado wanting others to act like the Dodgers really isn't that surprising with that context.

But Los Angeles still has far more resources than most teams and is vastly outspending the majority of its competition.

According to Spotrac, it has the highest tax payroll in the league for 2026 at $390.5 million. The New York Mets are second at $368.3 million.

Yet the Dodgers have also used deferred money on some of their high-profile contracts, including that of star Shohei Ohtani. As a result, they are sixth in total cash allocated for 2026 behind the Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves.

But combining it all in the average annual value tracker paints the true picture of how much more money the Dodgers are spending at $443.6 million compared to $356.8 million for the Mets and $312.1 million for the Yankees in the top three.

The Miami Marlins are last at $80.1 million.

While it is true many other teams should spend more money than they do given their overall resources, keeping up with the Dodgers is an entirely different request.
