NFL Franchise Tag 2026 Details and Full List of Players Tagged

Scott PolacekMar 3, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks may still be celebrating their Super Bowl title, but the rest of the NFL is solely focused on reaching that mountaintop.

And the roster construction process to reach that goal started with the franchise tag period.

The window for teams to use the franchise tag opened Feb. 17 and closed at 4 p.m. ET on March 3. That meant it arrived before the NFL Scouting Combine that started Feb. 23, the free agency negotiation period that starts March 9 and the NFL draft that starts April 23.

It was the first major offseason decision for many teams, but only four clubs ended up using a tag (Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets).

As CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan explained, teams could have used a franchise tag or a transition tag on players who would have otherwise been scheduled for free agency. Using the franchise tag means the player will receive a one-year, fully guaranteed deal that pays whatever is higher between the average of the top-five salaries at his position or 120% of his previous salary.

The franchise tag still allows other teams the chance to sign the player to an offer sheet, but a team that did so would have to give the player's original team two first-round draft picks if it doesn't match that offer.

By comparison, the transition tag is a cheaper one-year salary that is the average of the top 10 salaries for the player's position. The main difference is the player's original team would not receive that draft-pick compensation if it refuses to match an offer sheet from another team.

With that in mind, here is a look at the full list of players who were tagged before the deadline:
