Eli Manning Reacts to Bill Belichick Hall of Fame Controversy After His Own Snub

Julia StumbaughFeb 14, 2026

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning says he was surprised to see former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick join him on the list of names snubbed from the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Manning was not selected for the Hall of Fame in his second year of eligibility, while Belichick missed the cut in his first eligible year.

"Bill Belichick not making the Hall of Fame is pretty shocking," Manning told ClutchPoints' DJ Siddiqi. "You have one of – if not maybe the greatest coach of all time — and what he built there in New England, and the amount of Super Bowls they went to, and AFC championships, let alone just the amount that they won, it was incredible.

"I can't imagine a more deserving coach to make it in the Hall of Fame than him."

Manning had previously expanded on his thoughts on Belichick falling short of nomination as a first-ballot Hall of Famer when speaking with Front Office Sports last week.

"You win that many years, you probably have some people that did not like him because he was beating them, or beating their team, or doing those things, which is unfortunate that he's not being rewarded for all his great success that he had," Manning said.

Manning also told Front Office Sports that he was sure Belichick would eventually get nominated, but expressed less certainty about his own candidacy.

"I'm in peace in it. If one day I get in, it will be amazing to join that fraternity," Manning said. "But it's one of those things, I'm not sitting up losing sleep about it."

Manning, who is one of six players to earn multiple Super Bowl MVP awards, was a finalist for the Hall of Fame in both 2025 and 2026.

Belichick, who set an NFL record with six Super Bowl wins as a head coach, was a first-time finalist this winter before his snub from the 2026 class.

Belichick's exclusion from the final list of inductees received pushback from high-profile names, including former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and sparked a statement from the Pro Football Hall of Fame promising that the organization's voter base is reviewed annually.
