Chloe Kim Reacts to Missing Historic Olympic Gold Medal 3-Peat, 'This Feels Like a Win to Me'
Chloe Kim discussed her silver medal victory during the women's snowboard halfpipe final in the Winter Olympics on Thursday after coming up short in her pursuit of a third consecutive gold medal in the event.
"I think that there was a lot of conversation happening about the three-peat," Kim said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "I was thinking about it before, but I think the minute I injured myself I was like, that doesn't matter anymore. So this feels like a win to me because a month ago it didn't seem too possible."
On Jan. 8, Kim revealed that she suffered a shoulder injury while practicing for the Games. She was still able to compete on Thursday, though.

17-year-old Choi Gaon ended up standing atop the podium in the halfpipe final.
"It's all about passing the torch, so there's no one else I would have rather stood next to on the podium than her," Kim said regarding Choi, via ESPN. "I'm so proud of her and I'm so excited to see what she does next."
Kim led the field with a score of 90.25 in qualifying on Wednesday before putting together a strong performance for her first run in the final.
She was given a score of 88.00 on her first run, showcasing a switch double-cork 1080 as well as an inverted 540. The 25-year-old remained in the top spot on the leaderboard to open the third and final run, although Choi received a 90.25 score and moved to No. 1.
While Kim had one last opportunity to earn gold, she fell while attempting a switch frontside 1080 on her final run.
She was attempting to become the first snowboarder to ever win gold three straight times at the Games. United States snowboarding legend Shaun White has three Olympic gold medals under his belt, but they weren't consecutive.
Despite failing to secure gold on Thursday, Kim's overall performance was still impressive considering her ability to fight through the shoulder injury. It's also worth noting that she wore a brace while competing in the event.
Kim is slated to undergo shoulder surgery after the Olympics.
