Corbin Carroll Injury Update, Latest on D-Backs' Star's Return Timeline in New MLB Rumors

Adam WellsFeb 11, 2026

Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll will miss the World Baseball Classic due to a hand injury.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, Carroll will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a broken hamate bone in his right hand.

Passan added the injury will prevent Carroll from playing for the United States in the WBC and his status for opening day with the D-Backs is up in the air.

Per MLB.com's Steve Gilbert, the injury occurred during Carroll's live batting practice session on Tuesday as part of Arizona's first day of spring training.

Typical recovery time for hamate bone surgery is four to six weeks, but Passan explained hitters who have had the injury talk about how it can take months for their power to return.

A four-to-six week recovery time would put him on track to be healthy right around the start of the regular season. Arizona opens the year against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on March 26.

If Carroll misses the start of the regular season, Tim Tawa and Jorge Barrosa are the backup outfielders currently projected to make the Diamondbacks' 26-man roster.

Ryan Waldschmidt, the team's top prospect, could enter into the mix with a strong spring. The 31st overall pick in the 2024 draft, he finished last season at Double-A and hit .289/.419/.473 in 134 games during the 2025 campaign.

Carroll's injury also leaves Team USA with an open roster spot. He was part of an outfield mix with Aaron Judge, Byron Buxton and Pete Crow-Armstrong.

This was going to be Carroll's first appearance in the WBC. He originally committed to play for the U.S. in November after receiving an invite from manager Mark DeRosa.

The 2026 WBC begins on March 5. Team USA's first game is against Brazil on March 6.

Carroll is coming off arguably the best season of his career in 2025. He finished sixth in NL MVP voting after hitting .259/.343/.541 with 31 homers and 32 stolen bases in 143 games.
