Mike Macdonald Reveals '2Pac' Code Name for Key Play in Seahawks' Super Bowl Win to Jimmy Kimmel
One of the biggest plays in Super Bowl LX originated with a reference to a legendary rapper.
Near the end of the third quarter in the Seattle Seahawks' 29-13 win over the New England Patriots, Derick Hall sacked Pats quarterback Drake Maye and forced a fumble. Head coach Mike Macdonald revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the defensive coverage is code-named "2Pac" (the comments begin at the 5:00 mark).

Macdonald explained he and his fellow coaches were brainstorming coverage designations years ago, and the names of rappers were one source of inspiration. The usage of "2Pac" is very intentional in this case as the play calls for a Cover 2 shell.
Macdonald cemented his reputation as an astute defensive coach this season. The Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the regular season and were sixth in yards. The defense then propelled Seattle to victory in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots were held scoreless through three quarters, and Maye was sacked six times while committing three turnovers. New England head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels simply had no answers with the team failing to move the ball.
Macdonald's play codes have obviously served him well to this point. Now that the cat's out of the bag, it might be time to retire "2Pac" and come up with something else to disguise the Seahawks' coverage.
